Actress DAME DIANA RIGG’s trademark catsuit from THE AVENGERS turned her into an overnight sex symbol – but the figure-hugging leather outfit was "a nightmare" to get in and out

The television star – who played glamorous secret agent Emma Peel in the 1960s series – took almost an hour to disrobe after shooting scenes.
She recalls, "The leather catsuit I wore in The Avengers was a total nightmare; it took a good 45 minutes to get unzipped to go to the loo. It was like struggling in and out of

The next big push for foreign investors – including the Israelis – will be in residential properties. "There’s a lot of demand," Bochman says, "for high-standard housing, even if it’s not luxurious." Israeli companies have been, predictably, among the first to take advantage of a government decision to lower mortgage rates to young marrieds buying a new first home.
Large companies looking for good places to put up their developments have been hunting for properties in the lycra zentai suburbs of Budapest and along the Danube. Duna Investment, for example, is putting up an entire neighborhood on a 225-acre tract behind the Duna Plaza,Spiderman Costumes, which locals are already calling "mini-Tel Aviv." The run-down warehouses in the area will be replaced by a private Danube marina, a riverbank promenade, zentai suit, an entertainment center and 1,500 flats.
Ofer Brothers is currently negotiating with another Israeli firm, Minrav Holdings, on a plan to jointly build 800 luxurious flats in a new neighborhood of Budapest. And in early August, the same two firms spent about $ 5 million to purchase another Budapest plot, on which they plan to put up a total of 540 housing units in four high-rises.  Minrav also has other Hungarian plans.
Another new entry into the Hungarian market is the Engel Group, whose first local project is the 950-unit Sun Palace Park, on the more prestigious Buda side of the Danube, at the site of an old textile plant. Residents of these loft-style dwellings will face other newcomers in similarly done-over facilities on the Pest side of the river.
With foreign and local developers rapidly gobbling up all the available sites for new construction in and around Budapest, the era of building new apartments may last only a few years, as the mall craze did.  And given their past performance, the Israeli "giants" and the others will likely then begin focusing on some of Budapest’s hardly-touched older neighborhoods – or perhaps look for new worlds to conquer in other, nearby countries.

Not long ago, a woman from Brooklyn named Shavonne wanted a zentai to wear to a costume party. She went to Trash and Vaudeville, a clothing store in the East Village, and spoke to Jimmy Webb, a salesman. "I don’t have spiderman costumes," Webb told her. "No one’s the same across the shoulders and chest," he said, tracing the wings of her collarbone with his finger. "Catsuits have to fit perfectly, and they’re expensive." Webb is also the store’s buyer. "If I buy six," he said, "I can only sell one." Shavonne was disappointed. "Here’s what you do," Webb told her. "You go to Capezio, on Broadway, and buy a unitard. You know what a unitard is?" She shook her head. "A full-body leotard," Webb said. "They stretch to fit. You’ll look great." She thanked him and left.
"Did you know I went to hairdressing school?" Webb asked me. I said I didn’t. "I’m a beauty-school dropout, three times," he said. "Really, I’m more the kind of person to have my hair dressed than to dress other people’s. They told me I was inappropriately attired. I caused too much of a stir.&quot,Spiderman Costumes;
I asked how.
"Wearing a unitard," he said. "It was a leftover one year from when I was a quaalude on Halloween. A Rorer 714, the original quaalude. I was bone-thin back then, twenty pounds lighter than now. I got a solid-white unitard. I wore solid white, cheap, zentai suit, Thirty-fourth Street, high-heeled boots, and I had a little Puerto Rican woman bleach my hair with old-school wig peroxide. I must have looked like a Q-tip, but in a good way. I wrote ‘Rorer 714′ on the front. Years later, when people are looking for zentais that are expensive and don’t fit, I know where a unitard is."

WANNABE Alexandra Burke has been told to "sex up or ship out". But the babe, right – whose similarity to 2006 winner Leona Lewis could scupper her chances – has refused to wear

a figure-hugging costume spiderman .
Alexandra, 20, confided: "They wanted me to have more sex appeal. They wanted to put me in a catsuit and I was like, ‘No way!’.
Britney can pull off a catsuit but not Alex."
The singer and her mentor Cheryl Cole have decided to go for a raunchier image though – to prove she is less like Leona and closer to Beyoncé Knowles.
&quot, zentai suit;Cheryl wants to show people that I’m not just a ballad singer, &quot,Spiderman Costumes; Alexandra added. "We both want to show there are lots of sides to me.
"I try not to think about being pigeon-holed. I just want to get on stage every week, shake my booty, do the song and have fun.
"Leona’s more Mariah Carey and I am more Beyoncé.
"So give me ten years and maybe I could be just as bootylicious as she is!"

THE RELEASE on Friday of Charlie’s Angels at a cinema near you threatens to have the nation reaching for lip gloss, hairspray and, wait for it, a spiderman costume. Ouch. Shiny lips and flicky hair is one thing, but the unforgiving, all-in-one number will not have most of us rushing out to buy one.
OK, Charlie’s chicks – Natalie (Cameron Diaz), Dylan (Drew Barrymore) and Alex (Lucy Liu) – look pretty hot in their one-piece suits, but bear in mind that they probably had a nutritionist/fitness adviser to keep them trim, not forgetting calorie-controlled lunch boxes (Hollywood’s latest answer to healthy eating on location).
And they are actresses, not mere mortals with curves and cellulite and potential confidence crises. If you are blessed with long legs, a pert bottom, no hips and a nipped-in waist, then by all means go for it as shown by Victoria Beckham (black zip-up leather reminiscent of Girl on a Motorcycle), Mel B (black strapless all-in-one) and actresses Rosanna Arquette and Carmen Electra (in matching spray-on denim affairs), Liv Tyler (asymmetrical christian louboutin jumpsuit) and X-Men’s star Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (metallic blue leather). The rest of us can duck out of this look altogether.
&nbsp, zentai suit; But even if you are thinking of wearing one, you might find them in short supply (and if you are tempted, for heaven’s sake, stick to black). Alexander McQueen’s slashed, low-belted, black ribbon-wool design (he does his own take on the boiler-suit) has already been seen out and about doing the rounds. More than 50 per cent of Armani’s black velvet halterneck fitted catsuits (also available in plum) have left the shop floor and his grosgrain version has sold out. Michael Kors has gold sequined turtleneck, long-sleeved, loose-fit jumpsuits, but they are not for the fainthearted. There is no cowering in the corner in one of these. If you can, wait until February, when Versace will introduce backless halterneck all-in-ones in black, shocking pink, aqua and print, and another style with a singlet top and chain hip belt
Even the high street is selling out fast as the one "Christmas wow piece" is snapped up by the bold and the brave. You might have to break into a run if you want to nab Warehouse’s plunge-V, black satin catsuit with a gold sequin starburst round the neck, but before you put on your trainers, note that satin is the least forgiving fabric.
&nbsp,Spiderman Costumes; On the other hand, River Island offers black (the high-street retailers know the shade that sells) crepe-jersey costume spiderman in two styles with diamante belts either at the waist or under the bust. If you like the sound of Rosanna Arquette and Carmen Electra’s denim ensemble (looks like they are wearing tight indigo jeans and fitted shirt), then get thee to Oasis. If it has sold out, check out the black sassy numbers, complete with gold belts.
But be warned; while you might wow the boys (you are fully clothed, yet showing off every outline of your body), you will not score Brownie points in the ladies’. Anyone who has worn a skisuit will know what I am talking about – a great deal of huffing and puffing in a small cubicle as you wrestle yourself in and out of the wretched zips.

EJECTED Andrew Castle apologised to the men of Britain for getting sexy partner Ola Jordan kicked out of Strictly Come Dancing.,Spiderman Costumes
The GMTV presenter – who got booted off last night’s BBC One show – told The Sun he felt guilty for ending the stunning 26-year-old’s weekly stint on telly. But in a glimmer of hope for male viewers, he did say the Polish sexpot may give her plunging PVC catsuit another airing.
The pair became the seventh celebrity couple to go because of his lacklustre performance of the samba. Judge Len Goodman said: "Instead of Andrew Castle you’ve got to be more like a bouncy castle." And
the other judges also berated the former tennis star’s performance which cost the pair the dance-off to singer Heather Small and Brian Fortuna. Bruno Tonioli said: "The samba should have the excitement of the Brazilian Grand Prix and this was a Brazilian grand flop: no bounce, poor hip action, heavy footed."
But Andrew praised his sexy dance partner, saying: "Every man and teenage boy must love her. She’s such a fantasy figure; she’s beautiful and she bends double."
Ola caught the attention by appearing in a sparkly black PVC catsuit with a split down the front in the pair’s first dance, the cha-cha-cha.
Andrew, 44, said: "I’m sorry that Ola will no longer be on the show but I think the catsuit might be returning.
"She will be coming back for the professional group dances and I have a feeling that the return of the costume spiderman is imminent."
But the happily-married TV host, who said he and wife Sophia would love to take up dancing, zentai suit, said he barely noticed what the blonde bombshell was wearing during the dance because he was so nervous. Andrew said: "I think I was the only man in Britain who didn’t."
Andrew will also be returning to Strictly next week as he wants to see Beyonce in a guest spot on the Sunday results show. He said the Destiny’s Child singer charmed him when he interviewed her on the GMTV sofa.

In 1971, I got a call from a little magazine called Disc and Music Echo, who I was desperately trying to get work from at the time – not that they ever paid you much in those days. They said they wanted David Bowie photographed.
So I went down to Bowie’s house in Beckenham, Kent. It was a Victorian semi as far as I remember. I had photographed him before, at a small club in Aylesbury, when he was wearing a catsuit in a very tasteful shade of lime-cheap zentai . When I arrived at his home, there he was: on the top of a ladder, painting his ceiling with a can of Dulux, and wearing the same spider costume with a matching hat. He also had these long, white boots on. I thought it was very funny. It was obviously an outfit he wore all the time.
The journalist I was working with was called Rosalind Russell, who was a huge fan of Bowie. She was really happy to be there and ran the whole show, as I remember, while I just took pictures during the interview with a Nikon F camera and using only the available light, probably with either a 50mm or an 85mm lens.
I didn’t have to work hard to get the pictures, it has to be said. If you look at the contact sheets now, he was a bit affected, with quite flowery hand movements, and his catsuit hung open just perfectly. I just thought the curve of the fabric was nice, and I was aware that I was photographing his nipple.
Today, the breast-like shape on his chest almost looks like it was quite a clever way of reflecting his androgynous sexuality. But things were very different then, and I don’t think it even occurred to me that he was bisexual at the time. It was just the way he was. To me, he was simply an ordinary bloke at home. I shot him putting his paint away at the end.
This photograph is part of a selection of Michael Putland’s work, which is on display at Liberty of London until December 24.
Curriculum vitae
Born: Harrow, 1947 ("The same age as Bowie.")
Studied: "I didn’t. I left school at 16 and worked for a studio in London that did everything from passports to advertising, and gave me a great grounding."
Inspirations: "Louis Klemantaski, a motor-racing photographer, as well as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Magnum. Even today, I come across people I really admire."
High point: "Getting to be the Rolling Stones’ European tour photographer in 1973. It was such a boost to my career."
Low point: "I went on to form Retna, the photo agency, in New York, which was great. The downside was that I took less pictures,Spiderman Costumes, because I was involved with business."
Pet hate: "Intrusive paparazzi.&quot,zentai suit;
Dream subject: "I would love to have photographed Frank Sinatra and Maria Callas."

For a swimwear designer, Liza Bruce has always been surprisingly keen on covering up for the beach. Turtlenecks and hooded styles, shrunken T-shirt tops and long-legged bottom halves, zentai suit,”roll-downs” (those shorts or mini skirts that you roll back at the waist) how can such seemingly demure details add up to the racy style with which Ms Bruce has established her name as a trendsetter?
One glimpse of the cool and confident Ms Bruce at work in her studio, dressed in a skintight spiderman costume and bolero, however, and you see what she is getting at. Here is a woman with a crusading design philosophy about sexuality, function, freedom and style. For her, you realise, a swimsuit has always been more than just a state of undress, and limiting her ideas to a few square inches of stretchy colour has clearly never occured to her. ”Sexiness is not what you reveal, but how you reveal it,” she says.
After eight years spent stretching the accepted notion of swimwear from the four brief triangles of a ‘’string” bikini to the more sophisticated and graphic layers of colour of a basic suit worn with bandeau, skirt and oversuit, Ms Bruce has now surfaced from the water. With a shapely and colourful new line of trim, athletic outfits dresses,Spiderman Costumes, shorts and zentais she has taken her campaign for functional design on to the street.
Ideas ricochet around her sea shiny metallic-striped studio in Kensington, which is carpeted with wall-to-wall steel (the artistic patches of rust are contrived with applications of glue and water), as she explains the evolution of her swimwear designs into the range of supple clothes that hold, mould and reveal the body. ”A catsuit is dynamic. It makes you move around,” she says. ”Clothing has to change because our lives have changed.”
Ms Bruce is a designer whose sense of style is matched by her intelligence, and whose determination is backed up by her ideas of comfort and design, ideas which she shares with her husband, Nicholas Barker. She is an American, born in Manhattan but educated in England. Her father, a car designer, amused himself by creating Hollywood-style swimsuits and evening dresses for her glamorous mother. Mr Barker is a furniture designer, trained at St Martin’s in London, and his sculptural creations, mixed with his collection of African head dresses and tribal art, are the perfect foil for her designs.

When I was a teenager, I was into my horses more than my clothes. Couldn’t afford the clothes too. I was all about the jodhpurs. Jodhpurs was my look. Plus I really didn’t like wearing skirts because my legs were skinny. If I had to wear a skirt, like to school or something, I’d wear two pairs of leggings with it to fatten them up a bit. Such skinny legs.
I had to wear a uniform for school: jumper, tie,Spiderman Costumes, the usual. I used to mess with it. Change it. Funk it up. I’d wear my tie differently, wear outrageous louboutin heels, loads of make-up. . . I didn’t do it for fashion reasons, though. Didn’t care about that. It was more because I wanted to be a statement, to make a statement. I liked to be different then, I like to be different now.
At about 14, I started getting into my catsuits. Oh, I’ve still got a thing about my catsuits. Love them. Back then, they were black and Lycra and always from Topshop. I wore them everywhere: when I went out, to school on non-uniform days, down the shops. . . everywhere.
I did used to like my Saturdays clothes-shopping as a teenager, of course I did. But because all my money was going on the horses, my mum used to buy my clothes. Then I got into customising. My mum had a sewing machine she used to make curtains with, and when she got a new one, she gave the old one to me. I started off making horse rugs with it, but then I started the customising. Customising my clothes. I still do that now, I make so many clothes from scratch. I make Harvey’s clothes – little tracksuits and things.
Cyberpunks in silver catsuits , clingy synthetics and shiny nylon . . . Out of this world? Not at all, zentai suit, says Francesca Fearon, there is an undercurrent of wearability here. And, with a few minor alterations, this is the shape of things to come
THE Paris autumn/winter 1995 fashion collections are like a double A-sided record. This bumper offering spun out over the past week plays a wild and wacky theme on one side — the sort of spectacle that earns splash headlines and front-page photo opportunities. On the flipside, realism steps in and the precious decadence is peeled away to reveal what women really want to know — what they will actually be wearing next season.
Blitzing the headlines this season is the glam, futuristic cyberpunk vision.  Jean-Paul Gaultier’s whip-carrying cyberpunks wore hooded circuit-board print catsuits with bustle-bowed basques or tailoring. Neoprene was moulded into big fit-and-flare coats and astonishing ballgowns were shaped out of brightly coloured sleeping-bags. It was an extraordinary exhibition of sci-fi fashion interspersed with clever mohair and wool jersey tailoring.
Thierry Mugler’s gladiatorial robo-fashion provided the climax to his twentieth -anniversary collection, which was otherwise a pure Busby Berkeley extravaganza starring Tippi Hedren (the Hitchcock star), Patty Hearst (doing a spangled striptease), Jerry Hall, Elle Macpherson, and Marie Helvin along with a silver -spiderman costumeed cyborg who could have starred in Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.

TRACY SHAW can always be relied upon to show an acre of flesh for the cameras. She is a red carpet natural, primping and preening for photographers with all the self-

consciousness of Jordan after five vodka Red Bulls.
&nbsp, zentai; But last night’s outfit for the Baftas was outre even by Shaw’s standards.
Her pale blue catsuit – slashed to the navel, slashed to the thigh and studded with rhinestones – would not have looked out of place in Chipperfield’s Circus.
&nbsp, zentai suit; The only woman ever to look good in a costume spiderman was Diana Rigg – and she only wore one in the name of The Avengers. The man responsible for Shaw’s look is Kyri, the 29-year-old

designer who counts Carol Vorderman, Amanda Holden and Victoria Beckham among his clients.
When it comes to dressing celebs for glitzy premieres, Kyri is your man. His winning ways with satin and diamante are perfect for Tracy Shaw. The 28-year-old Coronation Street

star loves to change her look, and has gone through more image changes than Madonna – although not always with quite so much success. Pin curls, tousled waves, a brown wig and

pigtails are just some of the things she has put her hair through in the name of glamour. "Let it all hang out," seems to be Shaw’s motto, and while it is heartening to see a

woman who once fought body dysmorphia now feeling so at ease with her curves, perhaps someone should tell her that sometimes, less is more.

Tennis star Serena Williams’s black, leather-look catsuit may have seemed like an outrageous fashion statement when she wore it at last week’s US Open but it was designed to

boost her playing power. PETA BEE examines the claims of other recent developments in high-performance clothes and footwear
IT MAY look skintight but Serena’s spider costume can stretch to up to five times its original size, enabling her to jump and lunge for the ball totally unrestricted. It has also been

shown that athletes who wear Lycra-based compression shorts during training experience 30 per cent less muscle fatigue than those in normal gymwear.
Scientists are now developing a range of high-tech sportswear that can improve your game by helping you run faster or get fit quicker.
So, if the idea of squeezing into a catsuit doesn’t take your fancy – and even Serena admits that if you don’t have a decent shape, this isn’t the best thing to wear – here’s

some other smart sportswear.
 FITNESS-BOOSTING RUNNING VESTS
Researchers at Loughborough University have developed a running vest that could help you get fit more quickly.
Dr Mike Caine and a team from the University’s Progressive Sports Technology Centre have invented the RespiVest. This is worn round the chest and trains breathing muscles to

work more efficiently.
It has several elasticated loops which squeeze the chest to stop it expanding fully, forcing the lungs to work harder. "Athletes need to train their breathing muscles, " Dr

Caine says. "If they start to tire, it has a knock-on effect on the muscles in the legs and arms."
 POSTURE-IMPROVING TRAINERS
If you suffer from backache, the latest functional sports christian shoes could help.
MBT trainers, GBP 106 (01273 273555), were developed by Swiss engineer Karl Muller who studied the walking postures of Kenyan tribes to discover how they avoided joint and back

problems despite walking up to 50 miles a day. From his results, he invented a pair of trainers with a specially curved, super-thick sole that forces the postural muscles in the

legs, bottom and pelvis to work more effectively than when wearing normal louboutins.
In the MBTs your joints are better supported so you walk (or run) in a taller and more upright manner.
 COMPUTERISED FOOTBALL SHIRTS
Researchers from the University of Birmingham’s department of electrical and computer engineering have recently developed the SensVest, a football shirt that can monitor heart

rate, body temperature and speed.
Chris Baber, one of the shirt’s designers, says the computer-carrying fabric enables data to be sent back through a radio network to coaches and physiotherapists who can use it

to assess a player’s performance during a match.
They are also working on a computerised football which would mean that disputes with a referee or linesman could be solved instantly.
 POWER SOCKS
The knee-length socks that Commonwealth and European running champion Paula Radcliffe wears in races are designed to do more than look good – they actually help her to run

faster. Looking uncannily like the white socks girls used to wear at school, the Italian manufacturers of the tight-fighting garments say they also help to stimulate micro-

circulation in the calf muscles and prevent injury.
Although the power socks are specially made for Paula and aren’t on sale in the UK, you could always try wearing antiDVT compression socks, which use the same principles. Try

Activa Air Socks, GBP 9.56 (01283 540957).
 SPEEDY SWIMSUITS
Australian swimming sensation Ian Thorpe wore a full-length Adidas swimsuit to help him glide through the water at top speed at this summer’s Commonwealth Games.
Speedo produces a similar outfit called the Fastskin made from a fabric that simulates a shark’s scales and helps to reduce drag and muscle or skin vibrations that can slow

swimmers down. Studies at the Australian Institute of Sport showed speed improvements of 7.5 per cent when wearing a full-length Fastskin suit.
Speedo also has a range of Fastskin swimsuits for sale on the high street using the same high-tech fabrics. They are now on sale from GBP 40 and ready to try in the pool (0115

9105267).
&nbsp,zentai;AIR-CONDITIONED CLOTHING If you get unbearably hot and sweaty when working out, you should wear airconditioned clothing, just launched by Nike, from GBP 25 to GBP 250 (0800 279

9196).
New fabric technology has produced a material the company calls Nike Sphere Cool, costume spiderman, with unique raised nodules that allows air to circulate between the clothing and your skin.
The same principle is applied to Nike Sphere Thermal. This is clothing featuring dimples that trap pockets of air – like doubleglazing – to keep you warm on your winter run.

Catherine Zeta Jones writhing around in a ,zentai suitcatsuit, playing havoc with pensioner Sean Connery’s blood pressure, might be enough for undemanding film goers but it’s not enough for

me.
It wouldn’t matter if the zentai wearer was gorgeous Gary Oldman and yours truly replaced the former Bond as the voyeur, when style outweighs substance a film becomes nothing

more than a big-budget bore.
The premise of this hopelessly formulaic heist movie is simple – beautiful insurance investigator (Jones) tries to net the world’s greatest art thief (Connery).
But a stimulating plot is not really the issue here. It’s the pairing of one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars with the current movie darling that’s important – no matter how

absurd or ineffective the match. But for anyone who is actually excited by the prospect of seeing a great and respected actor reduced to the role of dirty old man, here’s what

happens…
Master thief Robert "Mac" MacDougal (Connery) can nick just about anything, even if it’s nailed down, and art is his particular passion. In fact, he’s a rich art collector who

only steals to expand his collection.
Mac has pretty much done it all, but he excels himself when he nabs a priceless Rembrandt, upsetting lot of people in the process – especially the insurance company. Their most

eager investigator, Virginia Baker (Jones), begs to be allowed to trap him by becoming his criminal equal.
She dons figure-hugging leather and a bad attitude, and treats Sean to a few displays of her athletic nimbleness, convincing him she’s the woman he needs to pull off the

biggest heist of all.
About halfway through, spider costume, the plot gets even more ridiculous, trying hard to seem clever but failing miserably.
But it’s not all bad. As you would expect from such a monstrously expensive movie, it looks swish and there are some excellent stunts.
I expected the calibre of talent to make Entrapment a worthwhile experience but ultimately I was left thinking I’d just sat through a studio executive’s private fantasy. I

wouldn’t recommend it.

THE Sixties are back with us this season and those women of a certain age could easily hunt their wardrobes for the items that defined that era.
&nbsp, spider costume;I can lay my hand on at least two tartan minis, a poncho and a costume spiderman with a memorable history.
And, lo and behold, they’re back in high fashion.
Had I kept up the exercises all these years I might even be able to get into them.
Catsuits, in particular, were magnificent garments, and they were back in Belfast last week at the special show by retailers who are trying to entice southern buyers to the

north.
Argos, which has got its fashion look together, have a stunning one for just pounds 29.
They’re strictly party wear and nice with a pair of killer heel sandals.
Argos have also dipped into the tartan minis.
So, too, have Marks & Spencer’s but theirs is a bit more conservative teamed with a polo neck.
Somehow, they look much better with the cropped tops.
As for ponchos, I wore mine because it was fashionable and it proved a boon when I was pregnant.
But that’s not how a poncho should be treated. With the chillier evenings they’re perfect for keeping warm.
Argos, again, have two, one for glitzy evenings and another one in colour, just in case you want to head back to sunnier climes.
These three items will probably define this early autumn look.
Also around are the suits in all kinds of tweed, the fringed chunky knits and duffle coats. Even the monochrome look made famous by Mary Quant and now taken up by Sarah

Ferguson, is back. Fashion hasn’t exactly moved forward this year but then the Sixties was a time of great change.
We can’t forget the fashion, zentai, nor the music, nor should we.

To fashion veterans, it is a jumpsuit. Some designers, however, are also referring to it as a spiderman costume, others as a unitard,Spiderman Costumes, and still others as an all-in-one.
Call it what you will, it is invariably tight, figure-revealing to the max, and a problem when nature calls.
The one-piece look, pegged as one of the fall’s biggest trends, has managed to find its way to the runways from Europe to New York, creeping into collections of every hue and stripe. But will it similarly infiltrate the closets of North America? After all, it’s one thing to admire the panache of Emma Peel, who? a television-engendered fantasy heroine – it is something else, altogether, to try to emulate it.
"Leggings have been big since last fall and the catsuit is a natural next step, an evolution of the look,&quot,costume spiderman;
explains Derek Price, one of the two designers behind the Toronto-based Price Roman label, which has a stretch crushed velvet version for winter ‘90."The trick is to cut it so that it suits a variety of body shapes, not just the perfect figure."
"You don’t have to be Miss America to look good in it," says Grace Hoo, a spokesman for British designer Jasper Conran, whose fall collection, inspired by the ballerina-look, is centred around a black stirrup-panted all-in-one.
For those of us who resemble neither a beauty pageant contestant nor Karen Kain, Hoo says Conran has created a variety of loose-fitting layers – sheer drawstring-waisted tunics, chiffon trousers and overskirts, black leather jackets and brief boleros, long silk T-shirts – to cover up what the unitard reveals.
"Donna Karan has been experimenting with the catsuit for a while and her stuff just flew out our doors," says a spokesman for Holt Renfrew. "Obviously, it’s not a look for everyone. But if you’re larger, you just add a big boyfriend jacket and you’re set."
So, this is fashion in the ’90s. Spend hundreds of dollars on a garment that you are too shy or embarrassed to wear. Faint of heart or flawed of figure, you must disguise it so that you can then go out in public, even though negotiating bathroom visits now becomes doubly complicated. Of course, if you just gave up eating and drinking, you could solve all the problems posed.
"Can you imagine a working woman sitting around a board table with 10 guys while wearing a catsuit?" says Sandra Angelozzi, designer for Femme de Carriere, a Montreal-based label. "And what’s the point of wearing it if you’re going to cover up? It’s a joke."

AUSTRALIA’S swimmers will be stalking the Barcelona Olympic pool for gold medals wearing spider costumes .
The Aussie Cossie has had a facelift, using revolutionary new materials and designs to give our swimmers biomechanically faster suits with ultimate comfort.
The unique new fabric, S2000, developed by Speedo, is a combination of polyurethane and polyester, creating a water resistant property similar to that of ducks’ feathers.
&nbsp, zentai suit; The catsuit design, modelled above by Olympic swimmer Leigh Habler, spider costume, is the most radical in yearsand features a high neck and a back zip.
Victoria’s Nicole Stevenson, who will represent Australia in the 100m and 200m backstroke, the 200m freestyle, and 4×100m medley relay at the Games, helped Speedo’s designers by testing the suit out in training.
"It feels really weird, it is so different to have a high neck, and to be zipped into the suit," Stevenson said.
"It is a bit like a wet-suit cut, the way the arm holes are big and the neck high, and the material feels rubbery and buoyant." Finding the new fabric and design to have a positive affect on swimmers’ performances, the Australia’s head coach Don Talbot approved the production of suits for the Olympic team.
The team will wear the S2000 swimsuit for the first time at the Speedo Grand Prix final at the Warringah Aquatic Centre this weekend.
But Australia may not be the only nation sporting the spider costume .
European and American Olympic swimmers have been reported to be clocking personal best times wearing the new swimsuits, and will be wearing them at the Games.

KYLIE MINOGUE staged her first concert since beating breast cancer yesterday and it was as if she had never been away.
The singer delighted her fans in a series of astonishing lycra spandex and gyrated energetically with scantilyclad male dancers as she performed her hits.
A sell-out crowd of 10,000 cheered as she took to the stage in Sydney for the first night of her Showgirl Homecoming tour.
It was hard to believe that it was only 18 months ago that she was diagnosed with the disease. Since then she has had a lump removed and endured chemotherapy that made her hair fall out and left her already tiny frame looking gaunt.
Now she is well again and she proved it in style, showing off eight outrageous outfits from designers including Dolce & Gabbana, Pucci and Karl Lagerfeld.
Kylie, zentai suit, 38, kicked off the concert in a showgirl costume by John Galliano, spider costume, with a pink plumed headdress and jewelled bodice with huge train made from ostrich feathers imported from Paris.
Another outfit featured a black PVC minidress with laced knee-high boots and giant cockatoo’s plumed headdress.
The Australian star also appeared in a head-to-toe leopard print catsuit complete with animal ears on her head.
A further costume change found her in a sequined miniskirt and a top streaming golden ribbons, with a punk-like peroxide wig over the blonde hair that has grown back since the chemotherapy.
Later in the show she wore a Pucci silver catsuit with matching silver headdress and a multicoloured swirled cape.
She also appeared in two full-length golden gowns and a sequined jacket teamed with a pair of printed culottes that bore a picture of Dame Edna Everage.
Kylie had to cancel her Showgirl tour when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year but promised fans she would return once she was better.
Speaking before yesterday’s show, she said: ‘Just to be here and have the opportunity to do it, I feel quite proud of that.
I’m thrilled to be back. I’ve been looking forward to it for such a long time.’ Her performance yesterday was the first of 20 concerts in Australia before a series of dates in Britain in January.

-fitting catsuit for her latest role as a rubber-clad dominatrix.
&nbsp,Spiderman Costumes;Although she enjoyed playing out the part for ITV’s Trial and Retribution VIII, she admitted that being pregnant didn’t help with the sexy lycra zentai she had to wear.
Victoria’s character, DCI Roisin Connor, has to don a tight rubber spider costume – complete with high heels, plunging neckline and whip – to go undercover at a sado-masochistic sex

club in a bid to solve two murders.
The sexy 31 year-old said: "Of course there were times when I felt uncomfortable. But generally speaking it was great fun and strangely liberating.
"I suddenly became a lot more forthright. I’d snap ‘no, yes, no, yes’ when shown shiny metallic!"
But Victoria, now seven months pregnant, said she had to keep going for refits after filming the series during the early months of pregnancy.
"I had to go back to the House of Harlot to ask for refits," she recalled.
"There was a particular need to keep carrying out readjustments to the top half of the outfit as I grew bigger and bigger.
"I was absolutely delighted to fall pregnant but here was an occasion when I wanted to be as slim and as fit as a butcher’s dog and instead I was getting grumpy if I didn’t eat

every three to four hours.
"No wonder my costume needed re-fitting," said Victoria, who is a member of one of Ireland’s wealthiest families.
The Smurfits – her dad Dermot and uncles Michael and Alan – have made a fortune out of the packaging business.
Victoria, who lives in Dublin with advertising and marketing company boss husband Doug Baxter, said Doug found it no surprise that she was cast to play a dominatrix-type.
"He told me: ‘that’ll suit you perfectly!’ she said.
The Irish actress, who hit the big time after starring in Ballykissangel, met her husband after agreeing to present a 1998 newspaper awards ceremony.
They married in 2000 in a lavish ceremony in Surrey followed by a honeymoon on the French Polynesian island Bora Bora.
&nbsp, zentai suit;As well as Ballykissangel where she played Orla, she’s also had parts in Cold Feet.
But she got her big screen break in 2000 when cast as Weathergirl alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Carlyle in The Beach.
Two years later she appeared as Suzie, a love interest of Hugh Grant’s character in the hit film About A Boy and the main character in Lynda La Plante’s Trial and Retribution.
l Trial and Retribution VIII is on ITV1 on Monday October 11 and Tuesday October 12 at 9pm.

A GIRL can never have too many pairs of shoes. Fancy footwear is a fashion must, especially strappy sandals for striding out in summer.
High heels have been elevated to heavenly status
 - they’re fawned over by celebrities and revered on TV show Sex and the City.
Ever since Carrie Bradshaw teetered across our screens in impossibly high heels we’ve been clamouring after covetable labels like Gina, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo and Christian

Louboutin.
The labels have become fixtures in glossy magazines and synonymous with style and glamour and now there’s a Glasgow shop which is ’solely’ devoted to designer heels.
Carol Currie in Gordon Street is a small boutique which is home to gorgeous sculpted heels, sparkly stilettos and funky flats. And there’s plenty of hot specials on offer in

the summer sale.
Sale shoes include several Gina styles – which have been reduced from (pounds) 225 to only (pounds) 99.
Christian Louboutin leather slingbacks have been reduced from (pounds) 265 to (pounds) 199 and gorgeous Emma Hope powder blue kitten heels
 are now (pounds) 145 from
&nbsp,louboutin boots;(pounds) 285.
They will make way for a new range of shoes which are due in this month. New arrivals include glam high heels and bags by designers Patrick Cox and Sonia Rykiel.
 Carol Currie was a
partner in an accountancy firm for 15 years but sitting behind a desk all day wasn’t for the bubbly mum-of-two.
Now her shop, which opened in May, has been a huge hit with Glasgow girls.
"I’ve always had a passion for shoes and, from a personal point of view, always found it difficult to find nice glam shoes in Glasgow so I decided to bring the London shopping

experience here." she says.
The shop has been designed by Graven Images with a stunning chandelier-style light, but it’s the shoes which take centre stage.
"It’s minimalist so that the louboutins could speak for
 themselves," says Carol.
As well as Gina and Christian Louboutin, louboutin shoes, the store also stocks London designers Emma Hope and Joseph Azagury as well as a collection of matching bags.
Full price tags range from (pounds) 185 to (pounds) 325. The
 average price is (pounds) 250.
Carrie and Co would love the christian louboutin shoes here – there’s everything from pointed flats to skyscraper stilettos.
Carol says:"I don’t stock anything I would not wear myself.
"It’s a mixed clientele. A woman aged 70 bought a pair of hot pink stilettos.
 "We want people
 to be able to come
 in and browse and
 not feel intimidated by
 the prices."
